Crustal Electrical Structure of the Ganzi Fault on the Eastern Tibetan Plateau: Implications for the Role of Fluids in Earthquakes

The initiation and evolution of seismic activity in intraplate regions are controlled by heterogeneous stress highly fractured rocks within the rock mass triggered fluid migration. In this study, we imaged electrical structure crust beneath Ganzi fault using a three-dimensional magnetotelluric inversion technique, which is host to an assemblage resistive conductive features extending into lower crust. It presents near-vertical low-resistance zone that cuts through brittle ductile transition zone, extends crust, acts as pathway for migration from crustal flow upper depths. Conductors associated with saline fluids 7% 16% partial melting, respectively. relationship between earthquake epicenter surrounding suggests seismicity overpressure fluids, dependent on volume changes generated decompression dehydration partially molten material during upwelling native flow.
